Recycle Your Boots was born from the consciousness that our society globally is producing an enormous quantity of waste and that plastic has become a big problem for our planet, as big as a continent.
Old ski boots often end up in a dump or are burned in waste-to-energy plants. In most of the cases, anyway, there is much room to extend their cycle of life, to avoid treating them as simple “waste”.
We make possible for anyone to bring us their old ski boots, of any brand. Tecnica Group will recycle them in a transparent and sustainable process.
We collect them. Bring your old pair of alpine ski boots, from any brand, to one of our RYB collection points across Europe.
We give your ski boots a second life. Upon an initial assessment, few of them might be reintroduced into second-hand market through social inclusion initiatives.
We recycle them. We developed the first-ever ski boot recycling system. Up to 85% of the materials composing a ski boot are transformed into new resources used into new ski boots, skis and footwear.
Bring back your used alpine ski boots, of any brand.
Boots have to be paired and should not be older than the year 2000. Please bring back alpine ski boots only (no Dynafit inserts, no ski touring, no telemark, no snowboard boots).
We transport them, minimizing the CO2 emissions, to the Evaluation Center.
The old ski boots are carried to the evaluation center in Italy using reduced environmental impact vehicles. We have a dedicated transportation plan, that keeps the number of collections to a minimum and optimize the routes to prevent unnecessary travel.
Ski boots are evaluated through a selection protocol
Ski boots are carefully evaluated one by one through a strict selection protocol. The status of the various components and the wear of the plastics in the structure are checked to ensure the latter correct destination of the boots.
The secondary raw materials are used in place of virgin materials in components of new Tecnica Group products.
Metals turn back again into buckles and screws, and plastics is regenerated in two types, polypropylene (PP) which is used partly for components of new Nordica and Tecnica ski boots and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), turning back to different components in Nordica and Blizzard skis, and Moon Boot footwear.
In partnership with Liski, we develop a new protective mattress for ski slopes.
Liners have a so-complex structure that hasn’t made easy figuring out a second life for them. We made it, thanks to our collaboration with ReMat: all the liners’ components are transformed into a compact layer of regenerated material that, along with virgin polyurethane, makes the sandwich construction of high-safety and quality Liski protection mattresses, going back to the ski slopes.
The old ski boots are shredded and sorted, turning into secondary raw materials.
Ski boots that have been evaluated as not fully functional are then shredded and sorted, turning into secondary raw materials towards a new life.
in the market favoring social inclusion projects with Cooperativa Sociale Insieme
If the used product still keeps its full functionality, it is reintroduced in the market as second-hand item, through the action of Cooperativa Sociale Insieme, whose distribution network aims at supporting social inclusion projects. This reintroduction follows the waste hierarchy, in which extending the lifecycle of products is prior to recycling them.
